Infrastructure — Good and bad examples for public transportation
General @ 31 Jan 2008 03:13 pm by Christina Anna Tramburg
Today we want to focus on another factor of our current poll concerning City Architecture: Infrastructure. Infrastructure is everything that sustains our quality of life including at least (public) transportation, built environment, water supply, waste management, building and development constraints. All these points form infrastructure but public transportation is a point that concerns every one of us.
And this time I want to share some personal infrastructure experiences that I have had.
Visual Excitement — Beautiful Cities in the world
General @ 28 Jan 2008 08:52 am by Christina Anna Tramburg
In the light of our PerfectCity Charter and the poll on City Architecture, we would like to go to detail on another factor. After having brought articles on City History and Architectural Styles, we are focussing on Visual Excitement. Visual Excitement is the feeling that people get when they see beautiful or interesting buildings. This maybe because of the scale of the building (as in it is just huge) or it may be because it is very intricate design that leaves a person in awe as to how it was built.
So, we were looking for a ranking of the most beautiful cities of the world. If a city is beautiful, it must be visually exciting! But we did not find a representative survey or a ranking. What we found were statements of people with different opinions: some named Sydney or Paris to be the most beautiful cities of the world, other named Vancouver, Isfahan, Hamburg, New York, Cape Town…
Moscow International Business Center — The biggest construction site of Europe
General @ 14 Jan 2008 04:30 pm by Robert Schmidl
It is like Manhattan at the Moskva River and it is getting more and more pretentious. The Moscow International Business Center project formally known as the Moscow City project is the symbol of the new, newly rich Russia. A construction site in the middle of Moscow is the origin of ritzy skyscrapers and luxury apartments. The goal of Moscow IBC is to create the first zone in Russia (and in all of Eastern Europe) that will combine business activity, living space and entertainment. It will be a city within a city. The project was conceived by the Moscow government in 1992. The construction of Moscow IBC takes place on the Presnenskaya embankment. The whole project takes up one square kilometre. This territory is the only spot in downtown Moscow that can accommodate a project of this magnitude. Today, most of the buildings there are old factories and industrial complexes. The total cost of the project is $12 Billion.
We extended the special edition of our User Interview until the end of January 2008.
We would like to hear your opinion on arenas in and around our cities like the “O2-World” Arena in Berlin or the Köln Arena in general as well as on their influence on regional aspects like infrastructure, employment etc.
After finishing a short questionnaire about arena consisting of 5 questions we would like to get to know you and your ideas a bit better.
Additionally there will be a draw of 20 interviews whose authors will get a City Tour Guide ”Top European Cities” which is exclusively available here.
Christmas in the City — How to put the spirit of Christmas in the city
General @ 20 Dec 2007 01:52 pm by Christina Anna Tramburg
Every year a lot of cities change their appearance at the end of November (in some cases a lot earlier). Cities mark the beginning of the Christmas season by decorating streets, buildings and public places. A lot of money is spent on creating a cosy, festive and welcoming atmosphere.
It does not matter what part of the world you look at; Christmas lights and decoration are all over the Christian countries. Whether you are strolling down a boulevard in Perth, Australia marvelling at the over 100.000 Christmas lights that the city puts up every year and the giant Christmas tree that is over 13 metres tall and decked out with over 750 decorations and more than 2000 lights or you are freezing in the Berlin winter doing some last minute Christmas shopping at the famous Kurfürstendamm – Christmas is all around you.
We would like to present to you our most favourite Christmas decorations from all over the world – enjoy:

Post and Win — Your chance to get your voice heard and win attractive prizes
User Interview @ 10 Nov 2007 11:26 am by Eurohypo
Modern arenas have a high impact on image and attractiveness of a city. The O2-World is currently one of the most amazing building projects in Berlin. O2-World is able to switch from a sports stadium to a concert arena within just a couple of hours. This makes the building really flexible and multifunctional.
During the next 10 years a whole new district should be developed around the O2-World, which will create new jobs and housing possibilities for thousands of people. Inspired by the current development of the O2-World Arena Perfect City started the new campaign "Post and Win" in a special edition of our User interview. We would like to hear your opinion on arenas in general as well as on their influence on regional aspects like infrastructure, employment etc. In addition to 5 questions about arenas we would like to get to know you and your ideas a bit better.
