One of our blog roll partner has an interesting contest. The World Mayor project, organised by City Mayors, seeks out mayors who have the vision, passion and skills to make their cities amazing places to live in, work in and visit. The World Mayor Project aims to show what outstanding mayors can achieve as well as raise their profiles nationally and internationally. It honours those who have served their communities selflessly and courageously and who have made significant contributions to the well-being of cities. The most outstanding mayor of 2008 will be presented with the World Mayor Award. Mayors from North and Latin America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa are competing for the annual World Mayor Award.

During the first round of World Mayor 2008, held in 2007, more than 100,000 citizens from around the world nominated some 820 mayors for the World Mayor title. Based on the number and quality of nominations, the editorial board of City Mayors, the organisers of the contest, selected 50 mayors from across the world, who proceed to the final round. Profiles of many of the shortlisted mayors have been written. More will be added. Voting closes at the end of June and the results will be announced in September.

Everybody is invited to choose, from a list of 50 finalists, the mayor(s) believed as most worthy of the title World Mayor 2008 by commenting on their achievements but also on their shortcomings. Leave a comment in English, on why the mayor(s) are voted for deserve to win the World Mayor Award.

The City Mayors editorial board will choose the winner and runner ups based on the number of comments received and the persuasiveness and passion of arguments. The organisers believe that the strength of argument is as important as the number of comments. This ensures that a ‘good’ mayor from a smaller city can compete on equal terms with a mayor from a large metropolis.

On PerfectCity there is a similar ‘competition’. Our current User Interview wants to give you the opportunity to present your city to the world. If you work in a department of the city council you can fill out the questionnaire below to let us know what city you represent and what you do. We are looking forward to your active participation in the discussion about the future of our cities!
