With the book review on “Green Building: Konzepte für nachhaltige Architektur”, the authors provided a slight insight into the topic of Green Building. Now let’s go on this subject and focus on Green Buildings, that are buildings that can produce a certain amount of energy themselves.

First of all, what does it mean to build green? Green or sustainable building is the practice of building/creating healthier, environmental-friendlier and more resource-efficient models of construction, renovation, operation, maintenance, and demolition. You can find examples for green buildings all over the world. One of my favourites is Norman Foster’s Hearst Tower in New York City.

This so-called Greenscraper was one of the first green buildings constructed in 2006. The building was created using 80% recycled steel. With its economical use of resources, the building earned an award from the United States Green Building Council’s LEED certification program.

Overall, the building uses 25% less energy than comparable skyscrapers.

Other Green Buildings are:

What do you think about Green Buildings? What are your favourites? What about the future of Green Buildings? Will there be single-family houses?

We look forward to your interesting ideas, opinions and viewpoints on PerfectCity.net!
