Hi,
“Diversity with unity” is quite difficult spot…
On the one hand, you stress the deficit of space in cities, because of the people, on the other, you want more places to meet people. How does it go together?

I agree with you about the importance of the factors you mentioned in your vision of challenges of urban design, but I would never name them on first place. Environmental problems seems to me more important.
It is really interesting to see again and again the regional differences of opinions and problems.

Anna, the concept of Unity in Diversity is what makes India stand out of the rest of the countries. 29 states, 6 union territories, 21 official languages, over a 1000 dialects, more than 5 major religions — this is what my India is made of. This is the diversity we talk of. Though, for the rest of the world, managing a population of few millions becomes a problem, India has been a flourishing country with over 1 billion population. We have already neared the goal of “Unity in Diversity” but yes, I must admit that we are a few steps away. And thats because of the communal violence that occurs in certain places.

This is the reason why, I believe, the diversity in the city and the attitude of its citizens is of prime importance for a country like India.
